February 1, 2007

On February 1, the U.S. Embassy opened its 20th “Window on America” (WOA) bookshelf at Gyeongsang National University.  Following the MOU signing, a tape-cutting ceremony was held in front of the WOA bookshelves which were placed in a prominent location of the library.  The WOA shelves were donated fully stocked with more than 40 different IIP and Embassy publications in English and Korean. Gyeongsang National University has 20,000 students and 750 faculty members.

January 24, 2007

On January 24, the U.S. Embassy opened its 19th "Window on America" (WOA) bookshelf at Kyungpook National University, the region’s most prestigious university with more than 23,000 students and 1,000 faculty members.  At the MOU signing ceremony, DPAO Michael Richards expressed his wish for the bookshelf to serve as a fountain of information for the university’s students and faculty members, who have a thirst for reliable information about the United States.  After the MOU signing ceremony, a tape-cutting ceremony was held in front of the WOA bookshelves set up in the multimedia room of the central library.  The WOA shelves were stocked with more than 40 different IIP and Embassy publications in English and Korean.

January 24, 2007

On January 24, the U.S. Embassy opened its 18th "Window on America" (WOA) bookshelf at Yeungnam University, a long-time good partner with PA programs.  U.S. Embassy donated all materials from Daegu American Center to Yeungnam University American Center in 1996.  At the "Window On America" MOU signing ceremony, DPAO Michel Richards expressed his wish for the bookshelf to serve as a fountain of information for the university’s students and faculty members, who have a thirst for reliable information about the United States.  Following the MOU signing, a tape-cutting ceremony was held in front of the WOA bookshelves established on the first floor of the library, where the most prominent location in the library.  The WOA shelves were fully stocked with more than 40 different IIP and Embassy publications in English and Korean.

On January 23, the U.S. Embassy opened its 17th “Window on America” (WOA) bookshelf at Sogang University, one of the most prestigious universities in Korean higher education.  At the MOU signing ceremony, DPAO, Michael Richards expressed his wish for the bookshelf to serve as a fountain of information for the university’s students and faculty members while also emphasizing the need for a strong and cooperative working relationship with Sogang University.  The WOA shelves were stocked with more than 40 different IIP and Embassy publications in English and Korean to reach out voices of America.

On January 19, the U.S. Embassy opened its 16th "Window on America" (WOA) bookshelf at Korea Polytechnic University.  At the MOU signing ceremony, DPAO Michael Richards expressed his wish for the bookshelf to serve as a fountain of information for the university’s students and faculty members while also emphasizing the need for a strong and cooperative working relationship with Korea Polytechnic University.  The WOA shelves came stocked with more than 40 different IIP and Embassy publications in English and Korean.

December 6, 2006

On December 6, the U.S. Embassy opened its 15th "Window on America" (WOA) bookshelf at Sungkyunkwan University.  With a distinguished history of over 607 years, this university was visited by Secretary of Education Margaret Spelling on her recent trip to Korea for International Education Week in November 2006.  More than 700 professors and 16,000 students will have access to the Window on America shelves.  DPAO Michael Richards attended the MOU signing ceremony along with IRC staff.  Following the signing ceremony, a tape-cutting event was held in front of the WOA shelves stocked with more than 40 different IIP and U.S. Embassy publications in both English and Korean.

August 4, 2006

On August 4, the eleventh "Window on America" bookshelf was established at Seoul Youth Center for Cultural Exchange (SYCCE), operated by the Korean National Commission for UNESCO under the auspices of the Seoul Metropolitan Government.  At the MOU signing ceremony, A/PAO Michael A. Richards expressed his wish for the bookshelf to serve as a fountain of information not only for the Korean youth, but also youth activity practitioners and leaders while emphasizing the need for a strong and cooperative working relationship with SYCCE.

On July 5, the tenth "Window on America" bookshelf was established at Pukyung National University (PNU).  PAO Don Q. Washington expressed his wish for the bookshelf to serve as a valuable resource for accurate and reliable information on the U.S. for students and faculty members.  He also congratulated PNU on its newly established "Institute of American Studies" and emphasized the need for a strong and cooperative working relationship between U.S. Embassy Seoul and PNU.

On May 15, the sixth "Window on America" bookshelf was established at Korea National University of Education in the Chungbuk region of South Korea.  At the MOU signing ceremony, PAO Don Q. Washington expressed his wish for the bookshelf to serve as a fountain of information for the university’s students and faculty members while also emphasizing the need for a strong and cooperative working relationship with KNUE. "Window on America" is a partnership between U.S. Embassy Seoul and the host institution. The host institution is responsible for providing an ideal locale for the bookshelves and its maintenance, while U.S. Embassy Seoul is responsible for providing the materials.

U.S. Embassy Seoul Kicks Off "Window on America" Bookshelf Program at Seoul National University

August 22, 2005

"Window on America" is a new initiative of U.S. Embassy Seoul establishing bookshelf housing stocks of USG publications in English and Korean in high youth traffic areas throughout Korea, such as university libraries and youth community centers.  The project is a partnership between U.S. Embassy Seoul and the hosting institution.  The hosting institution is responsible for providing an ideal place for bookshelves, while U.S. Embassy Seoul is responsible for providing materials. "Window on America" will give Koreans access to information about the United States that is accurate, authoritative, and promotes American voices to young Koreans.  The first "Window on America" bookshelf was established at Seoul National University.
