Who will be the next Mr. Ban?

On July 10, the APP Officer represented the United States at a successful and unique initiative – the International Student Diplomacy Seminar of the “Just Like Mr. Ban” project.  Busan City chose 70 gifted students to serve as delegates from ten countries in a mock conference on global warming and climate change.  Actual diplomats from each of these countries also attended, presenting bilateral issues between their countries and the Republic of Korea, and interacting with the students, sharing their experiences as professional representatives.  The APP Officer shared examples of environmental and scientific cooperation between the United States and the Republic of Korea, and also enjoyed coaching the students on a career in diplomacy.

주한미국영사관 타일러 알렌 영사는 2009년 7월 10일 부산시가 주최한 “제2유엔사무총장 양성 프로젝트” 라는 국제학생 외교 세미나에 미국을 대리해 참석했다. 부산시는 70명의 지역 우수 학생들을 선발하여 이들을 10개국 대표단으로 선정하고, 지구온난화와 기후변화에 대한 주제로  모의유엔회의를 개최하였다. 또한 이들 10개국으로부터 현직 외교관들이 직접 참석하여 한국과 각나라별로 안고 있는 양국 현안들에 관해 소개하고 학생들과 이에 관해 대화하고, 또한 전문대표단으로서의 자신들의 경험을 들여주었다. 타일러 알렌 영사는 환경과 과학분야에서 한미양국이 서로  협력한 사례들을 들어 주고, 앞으로 외교 분야의 직업을 선택할 학생들을 위한  선배로서의 조언도 해주었다.
